So... one of the advantages of the big mail servers is that it should be theoretically fairly easy to know when a message is spam. As in, I'm Gmail and I'm pretty sure this message is spam since it was sent to 15,000 of my users and isn't an obvious monthly newsletter from such and such well-known publication...
I was curious. Could this be achieved similarly with smaller mail servers (such as ours) by setting up, say, a 10,000 email address honeypot list and have a simple proggie say "this was delivered to 327 honeypot addresses and 1 real address, mark as 'spam' for the real user?"
How well would this actually work in practice?
